Like our tagline says:

We aim to bring psychology into the Latin living room.

The Latin population is the fastest growing group of people in the United States. With this comes diversity and being different isn’t always easy in any culture. I created this website to be a place where you can come, feel at home, and learn about things you may be struggling with or simply gain a better understanding about what tío, primo, or even abuelita may be going through. Our goal is to become an online community where you can share your thoughts, expand your knowledge, connect with like-minded people, and laugh a little!

Welcome to HealthyMente! Because a “healthy mind” gives you the wings to soar!

Shirley Impellizzeri, Ph.D.

“Dr. Shirley” is a clinically trained Psychologist with a Doctorate Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has a successful practice in Beverly Hills, California focusing on individuals, families, and couples. Dr. Shirley’s patients come from all walks of life and a wide variety of case issues. She has been featured on many shows such as “Dr. Drew Celebrity Rehab”, “The Doctors”, “Workout” and was also a recurring guest expert on the Spanish television show “Mujer Today”.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Shirley attended high school in her parent’s native Argentina where she was inspired by a psychology course and knew then and there that she wanted to pursue a career in psychology. Living in Argentina during this time allowed her to get in touch with her roots and immerse herself in the Latin culture.

In 2013 Dr. Shirley’s book Why Can’t I Change? How to Conquer Your Self-Destructive Patterns was published. In it she shares every thing she learned that literally changed her life. During her research while writing it, Dr. Shirley noticed a lack of web-based psychological support in the Latin community. Consequently, she set out to create an online community where people can relate to one another, find resources in areas of interest, share ideas, support one another and connect…..and that’s how HealthyMente was born!

Your first challenge is to act out, recite in poem form, or just tell us your funniest “Latin parent” moment. I know you have one…maybe it was the time your mom made you go with her to the supermarket “rapidito” just to pickup that one forgotten item to finish dinner.

Oscar Torre

“Latinos are a lot more diverse than what the census would lead most American to believe. What seems to be a common denominator, however, is our reluctance to discuss mental health issues. This has got to change if the next generation of Latinos is to be successful. HealthyMente.com opens up the conversation.”
